Matt Ford, PGA Golfer sponsored by CK Group, Played on of the most important tournaments of his career this past weekend, as the final result would determine whether or not he retained his European Tour Card.
To retain playing privileges for the following year, a player must place in the top 110 in the Race to Dubai rankings. Before the Hong Kong open, Ford was 117th and it looked like he would have to try his hand at Q school again. This was how Ford obtained his first European Tour Card.
As his last tournament of 2015, this meant that Ford had to place somewhere in the top 20 to even have a chance of keeping his Tour Card.
The Hong Kong Open
When it came to the tournament however, a flawless round 2 and score of -6 under sent Ford into T5th place for the weekend.
An unfortunate double bogey at the 9th on Saturday put Ford briefly on +1 for the day after the front nine, but 4 birdies on the back kept him up the rankings going into Sunday.
As the pressure mounted on the final day, Ford dropped 2 shots at 15 and 16 taking him back to par. However, he kept his cool during high stakes and picked up another birdy on 17. The final hole, Ford reached the green in regulation, but left himself with a 40ft putt, finishing the hole on par and placing T7th with a total score of -10.
Tour Card retained
Shortly after finishing, an emotional Ford was interviewed about the pressures of the weekend. You can see that interview here
A few hours later, it was confirmed that Ford was 106th in the Race to Dubai rankings with a total of 262,333 points.
So from all of us at CK Group, congratulations for some fantastic golf this weekend and throughout the year.
Oh, and thanks for keeping it interesting right up to the line!
