CK Group have been providing a variety of different cleaning services for Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust for over 15 years. The demands of the service have increased significantly since the original contract, but our ability to go above and beyond the specification has helped form a solid working relationship with GSTT and allowed us to retain the contract time and time again.
The bulk of the service provision surrounds the daily and periodic cleaning of communal areas within both Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals, including corridors, lifts, lobbies, external areas and washrooms.
Due to the volume of patients, visitors and staff occupying the sites, the bulk of daily cleaning operations are completed at night. This allows our cleaning operatives greater freedom within the public spaces and means the service can be carried out with minimal disruption and disturbance to all occupants.
The cleaning of the entrance areas and public washrooms poses the biggest challenge on the contract, due to the weight of foot traffic in these areas. Washrooms are constantly in use and our operatives have to conduct frequent cleans throughout the day to maintain the hygienic conditions and visual appearance of the areas. Each washroom is attended by operatives of matching gender, allowing for cleaning operations to be carried out in sections without the need to close the entire area.
CK Group also introduced a laundry facility into the hospital in 2011 and continue to provide a managed service. The facility operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is responsible for the laundering of all microfibre cloths and mops across Guys and St Thomas’ sites. The service also includes the collection of soiled fabrics and the delivery of clean cloths and mops to departments once laundered.
Daily cleaning duties are also carried out at GSTT Satellite sites, including Camberwell, New Cross Gate and Tunbridge Wells Dialysis Centres, as well as VHP decontamination services at various Intermediate Care Centres.
CK Consumables, the sales division of CK Group, also supply and deliver cleaning consumables and materials for the contract, ensuring sufficient stock at all times. A machine maintenance and repair service is also in place to ensure machines are in good working condition and minimise the impact on services in the event of a breakdown.
All cleaning and service monitoring is carried out in line with the National Specification for Cleanliness in the NHS, with reports and feedback provided to the trust at monthly Management Meetings.
