Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital
Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospital wanted a completed overhaul of their cleaning services. They requested the environmentally friendly microfibre technologies to be implemented across the hospital. This is no small task when the Hospital has over 850 beds, around 13,200 members of staff and roughly 2 million patient contacts every year.
The change in cleaning methods was to be made in a cost effective manner and have no detrimental effect to the existing hygiene standards in the hospital.
Our relationship with Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital started over 20 years ago and over that time we have significantly helped to improve the quality of cleaning across the sites. We introduced the microfibre system using a pyramid structure. Starting off with the wards, then out-patient clinics and finally all remaining non clinical areas. We constantly monitored the results as we went along to ensure the staff were applying their knowledge to best effect. The pyramid introduction method allowed us to fully understand the huge demand and pressure placed on the internal laundry system ensuring that before it was rolled out to other areas there was always sufficient clean stock available to use in all hospital areas.
This microfibre barrier laundry system, which the Trust has now contracted to CK Group, is one of the largest in the UK. The huge demand for microfibre cleaning cloths and patient clothing means that the system is use 24 hours a day/7 days a week all year round.
